A 32-year-man, Isaac Ezekiel, has been arrested by the Bauchi State Police Command for plucking out the eyes of a teenager, Uzairu Salisu, 16.
Two other suspects arrested in connection with the crime were Nensok Bawa, 38, and Yohana Luka aka Doctor Samu, 52.
Salisu’s eyeballs were plucked out in the Jira Mountains, Yelwa area of Bauchi metropolis last Friday.
Exhibits recovered from the principal suspect, Ezekiel include; The two human eyeballs in a calabash, cable wire used in perpetrating the heinous act, and a traveling bag containing some native medicine.
A statement by the spokesman of the Command, SP Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, made available to journalists, yesterday stated that ” In April 2022, the principal suspect, Isaac Ezekiel, conspired with the suspects to conceive the idea to commit the atrocity of getting the eyeballs of a human being.”
It further revealed that “On 24th June 2022 at about 0900hrs the principal suspect Isaac Ezekiel lured one Uzairu Salisu ‘m’ 16-year-old, of Jahun Bauchi metropolis, into a nearby bush for a casual job on his farm. Isaac Ezekiel used a cable wire to strangulate Uzairu Salisu into a coma and used a knife to remove the two eyes for ritual purposes.”
Wakil said that investigation was ongoing after which, the suspects would be charged to court.
In a related development, the Police in Ogun State have arrested two ex-convicts in the Mowe area of the state, who were said to be returning from a robbery operation in Ogbomoso, Oyo State.
The two men, 37-year-old Wasiu Opeyemi, of Ijebu Ode, and 27-year-old Noah Israel, who hails from Benue State, were apprehended on June 23 by officials of Ogun State anti-kidnapping unit on routine patrol in the Mowe area of Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The two men were reportedly on a motorcycle when they were stopped for questioning by the policemen.
