A 39-year-old man, Mfon Jeremiah, who was arrested by men of the Ogun state Police Command for impregnating his 13-year-old daughter (name withheld) in the Mowe area of the state, has said he thought he was sleeping with his wife.
The suspect was arrested after the victim’s mother lodged a complaint at Mowe divisional headquarters when she discovered that her daughter was pregnant and her husband was responsible.
It was learned that she took the minor to the hospital where it was confirmed that she is four months pregnant.
After pressing to know who impregnated her, the 13-year-old girl disclosed that it was her father.
Following the complaint, the DPO, SP Folake Afeniforo, quickly mobilized some officers to the suspect’s house where he was picked up and taken into custody.
Upon interrogation, the suspect confessed to sleeping with his daughter which resulted in the pregnancy but claimed he was under a spell when he committed the act.
According to him, he was ‘dreaming’ of having sex with his wife because they had split up, when he suddenly realized that it was his daughter he was having sex with.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Bankole, has directed that the suspect be transferred to anti-human trafficking and child labour unit of the state Criminal Investigation Departments for further investigation.
