Kwara govt suspends alleged killer-doctor, Adebowale

The Kwara State Government has placed on indefinite suspension the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of Kaiama General Hospital, Dr Adio Adeyemi Adebowale, who allegedly kidnapped and killed two women in the state.

This was as the state branch of the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, has confirmed the status of Adebowale as a certified medical doctor and a member of the association.

Adebowale, the CMD of Kaiama General Hospital in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara, was alleged to have killed two ladies, one of whom was his girlfriend, and buried them in different places.

Spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, in a statement on Sunday, October 2, 2022, reported that Adebowale admitted to killing his girlfriend, one Ifeoluwa, who was declared missing in the Tanke area of Ilorin in 2021.

TheNewsGuru.com reports that the suspect was arrested for allegedly killing a cab driver, Emmanuel Yobo Agbovinuere, weeks ago in Benin City, Edo State, and made away with the deceased’s vehicle.

It was gathered on Tuesday in Ilorin that Adebowale was placed on suspension by the Senior Staff Management Committee of the state Ministry of Health, which is responsible for imposing disciplinary action on senior members of staff in the Kwara State Health Management Board.

According to the police, the latest gruesome discovery was made after the newly posted State Commissioner of Police, CP Paul Odama, ordered a high-powered investigation into the case of a missing woman identified as Nofisat Halide.

The statement reads, “Based on the CP’s order, the investigation into the case began on September 30, 2022. Working on a lead provided by the arrest and confession of one Dr Adio Adeyemi Adebowale in Edo State, who confirmed he killed one Ifeoluwa, his girlfriend, who was declared missing in the Tanke area of Ilorin sometime in 2021 and her body later discovered in a bush in Alapa area of Ilorin where he dumped it”.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr Raji Razaq, while commenting on the issue said, “Yes, I’m confirming to you that he has been suspended and his salary has been stopped pending the conclusion of an investigation into his activities by the security agencies.

“He is alleged to have committed a criminal offence. We have to suspend him and stop his salary. We have to wait for other actions pending the time the investigation is concluded, and you know that a person is deemed innocent until he’s proven guilty of the alleged offence by a court of competent jurisdiction. We will wait until the investigation is concluded and the defendant is proven guilty by the court before we take any other action.”
