A community leader in Delta state, Nigeria has allegedly shot one of his wives dead early hours of Saturday in a community located in the suburb of Warri over marital arguments they had at their Jeddo home.
Chief Ikpuri, the Unuevwero of Edjeba Community in Warri South Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta state, Nigeria shot her wife, Blessing Ikpuri, on the back of her head while she was running for her dear life.
When Chief Ikpuri was accustomed by Jeddo citizens, he claimed armed robbers had shot his wife, leading to her death.
But, one of the sisters of the deceased, living with them in the home, who spoke to TheNewsGuru correspondent under the condition of anonymity, said her in-law shot her sister while she was running from his beating.
The sister of the deceased, lamenting, said there have been protracted issues of abuse in the marriage between her deceased sister and the husband.
She said the deceased returned to her matrimonial home with the intention to pack her remaining belongings when she met her untimely death.
She said her in-law shot her sister, and that she gave up the ghost immediately.
Chief Ikpuri has, however, agreed to officers of the Okpẹ Division of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) that he actually shot and killed his wife himself. The Police have retrieved the gun with which the Chief shot his wife from him.
The remains of Mrs. Ikpuri, 35 years of age, who is from Orogun community in Ughelli North LGA of the State, has been deposited in a morgue, with the NPF saying further police investigation will follow.
