The former Provost of Alvan Ikoku College of Education and Dean of Education- Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri, Professor Cletus Ngozi Uwazurike, who died on October 25 will be laid to rest at his compound on Dec 23.
In a statement by the former President of Igbo think tank group, Aka Ikenga, Chief Goddy Uwazurike, the deceased would be buried at his compound on Dec 23 at Umunakanu Ehime Mbano LGA Imo State, after a Pontifical Requiem Mass, at St Theresa Catholic Church Umunakanu, by 10am.

A statement by Prof Chudi Uwazurike and Eng Ik Uwazurike pointed out that Prof. Uwazurike, an academic giant, author, orator and motivator, in his lifetime held many positions of prominence, including Provost of Alvan Ikoku College of Education, Owerri, Dean of Education, Imo State University and Member, Constitutional Conference of Nigeria.
A highly respected community and Church leader, the late Professor, who studied in Nigeria and the USA, was honoured with several chieftaincy titles, including Ikemba, Ahaejiagamba and Enyioha.
The statement further noted that the late Prof. Uwazurike is survived by his wife, Dr Mrs. Ndidi Uwazurike LSM, sons, Ik, Chuma, and Chigozie; daughter-in-law, Mrs. Fresher Uwazurike and grandchildren, and brothers, Prof Chudi Uwazurike, Bar Goddy Uwazurike KSM, sisters Eziada Elizabeth Nwachukwu, Dr Mrs. Evelyn Nwadinobi, Dr Mrs. Justina Chukwu and HRH Ugoeze Ijeoma Aguh.
Late Prof. Uwazurike is survived by Dr Johnkay Nwadinobi, Dr Enj. Johnny Chukwu, HRH Eze B. Aguh, Dr Mrs. Josephine Uwazurike, Lolo Chioma Uwazurike, Lolo Tonia Uwazurike LSM and Cindy Uwazurike.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that IMSU was established in 1981 through law No. 4 passed by the Imo State House of Assembly. The university admitted the first intake of 392 pioneer students on 23 October, 1981.
After the creation of Abia State in 1991, the Uturu campus of the university became the Abia State University.
Imo State University is a fully functional university. Most of the programmes of the university have obtained full accreditation from National Universities Commission (NUC) of Nigeria.
The result of the 1999/2000 accreditation exercise of the National Universities Commission (NUC) confirmed the high rate and acceptance of the university by the Nigerian public. The university was ranked first among all state universities in Nigeria and 10th overall among both state and federal universities.
Imo state indigenes in Imo State University were granted free education during the tenure of the then Governor Rochas Okorocha but the programme stopped in 2016.
This was announced by the Acting Vice Chancellor of IMSU, Professor Adaobi Obasi through the Registrar, Professor Emeka Ejinkonye, who stated that the students of Imo origin would henceforth pay a token for certain services in the school.
