The Abia State University on Wednesday granted a one-week lecture-free period to ensure the safety of its staff and students.

The university’s Registrar, Acho Elendu in a directive which was contained in a statement said “the Senate of Abia State University has approved the lecture-free week, effective immediately from July 31, 2024”.

The management noted that the intent of the decision is to give students more time to prepare for the upcoming 2023/2024 first semester examinations, which are scheduled to commence on Tuesday, August 13, 2024.

The university further advised all staff members and students to avoid unnecessary travel during this period to ensure their safety.

The statement also urged the university community to adhere to the guidelines provided.
