Dancehall singer, Oghenemairo Emeofa a.k.a Mad Melon of one half of the singing duo, ‘Danfo Drivers’ died on September 26th 2019 after an intense battle with an undisclosed illness.
Alongside Mountain Black, he was half of the duo affectionately dubbed ‘Danfo Drivers’ by Nigerian music lovers.
Mad Melon and his partner, Mountain Black became prominent after the release of their mainstream dancehall tune ‘I Am a Danfo Driver, Suo.’
Mad Melon was born Oghene Mario while Mountain Black was born Olotu Jimoh.
The talented duo signed to Cornerstone Records, owned by Desmond Okenwa and became two of Nigerians biggest stars between 2003 and 2005. They had national tours and got unsolicited media attention.
Years back they were in the news for being allegedly arrested by Police operatives over armed robbery.
Though they later had problems with their marketer and Cornerstone Records, the ‘Kpolongo’ crooners managed to release two albums; Danfo Driver (2003) and Danfo Travel: Success Story (2005).
Their hit song ‘I Am a Danfo Driver, Suo,’ was one of the Nigerian songs selected for the movie, ‘Phat Girlz ‘
In 2014, the duo revealed in an interview with Vanguard that Cornerstone Records permitted their marketer to pirate their albums and that Cornerstone Records didn’t promote them enough.
