Anti-Igbo remarks: Brymo tenders apology

Following remarks against the Igbos, popular musician, Olawale Ashimi, a.k.a. Brymo, has tendered an apology to the tribe, after incurring heavy criticisms.

This came after the singer was roundly excoriated by Nigerians for his Anti-Igbo remarks which spurred thousands of Nigerians to sign a petition to impede the singer from winning the All Africa Music Award where he was nominated in the ‘Songwriter of the Year category.

It was reported that the singer had insulted the tribe, saying that the country is not ready for an Igbo presidency.

He recently took to his Twitter to apologize for his comments adding that he meant no harm.

Brymo wrote: “Forgive my assertions that came across as bigoted spewings against the Igbo tribe, I did not mean to do harm, I am sorry!! ..”

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) recalls that Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy of the PSquare had referred to Brymo as a tribal bigot.

Brymo had noted that he would not vote for the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, for being an Igbo man.

Reacting to the anti-Igbo comment on his Twitter handle, Paul Okoye, a staunch supporter of the Obedient movement, warned Brymo to mind his speech.

While noting that the February 25th general election would come and go, and the people would return to their everyday lives, he said, “election will go, and everyone will move on. Mind what you are preaching.”

”But you have decided to be a tribal bigot because you think you are getting some attention by insulting a particular region of the country, and some people are praising you. as an artiste, I’m only disappointed.”

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Brymo started recording music in 1999 while in secondary school. He signed a record deal with Chocolate City in 2010 but was accused of breaching his contract with the label in 2013.
