Singer and activist Charly Boy has apologised to his daughter Dewy Oputa over a post he made about accepting her as a lesbian.
Charly Boy in a lengthy Instagram post explained to his daughter that he was trying to tell parents that they can only put their children on the right paths and the rest is left for the children.
“My Dear Dewy, I know the last few days may have been tough for you following from my Friday post. I apologize if my post rubbed you the wrong way, for this I am deeply sorry, my bad. Forgive me,” he wrote on Monday.
“But Honestly, I was talking to parents trying to get them to understand that they-can only give good advice or put their children on the right paths, but the final forming of a person’s character lies in their own hands.”
On November 20 the maverick musician made a post on Instagram saying he was grateful for having a lesbian child.
Responding to her dad’s post Dewy said, “But just a few days ago … you know what never mind, we already did this in 2018. Imma let you post your lil content for your follows.”
Still not pleased, she opened up in a Twitter thread about how she had been treated unfairly by her dad.
“’ Gaslighting’ at its finest. It is quite unfortunate that my life is nothing but content. I just cannot wrap my head around the hypocrisy. All this for a drop of clout, attention, and praise from strangers just to feed your ego.
“Honestly, I was going to just ‘free’ this situation because I’m used to this toxicity and mentally I’m tired. But after seeing this, I cannot stomach this pretentious behaviour anymore because normally, this man does not pick my calls.
“2017 I got kicked out of the house and was damn near homeless and if not for my friend I wouldn’t have even had food or Shelter!”
