When it comes to Nollywood movies, Lateef Adedimeji is an actor who has written is name in gold. The handsome thespian who is a year older today, February 1st 2020,is one of the most sought after actors in Nollywood at the moment.
Unknown to many, the Mass communication graduate of the Olabisi Onabanjo University had it tough when he started out in the world of make-believe.
In his words: ”The very first location I went to was in Ibadan. Despite all I had learnt before I joined the industry, I had to drop everything and became an errand boy.I worked with Uncle David Otemolu, holding the camera. If they needed anything, I was the one getting it for them.I did that for about three days on that set. I think I appeared in one scene and later two and three until the big break came when Yewande Adekoya shot ‘Omo Elemosho”.
The versatile actor while sharing his story revealed that he was paid poor acting fees in the days of his little beginnings.
“It was really had . I remember I would go back home to ask my dad and mum for money and they would ask me what I had been doing on locations for weeks If I was not going to be paid .At that time they were expecting me to be taking care of my younger siblings, but I was there asking them for transport fare to movie locations”, he recalled.
A movie Lateef starred in in 2019, ‘Surface’ hit 1 million views on YouTube last December.
Asked how he handles fame, Adedimeji said: “Handling fame hasn’t been easy.In fact, I am not even enjoying it.I told my father sometime ago that If I knew fame was going to be this hard to manage, I would have preferred to be a teacher.
Lateef who currently has over 1million followers on Instagram has starred in movies like ‘Sugar Rush, ‘Ayoka’ ‘Ahon’, ‘Hidden Wound’ amongst others.
