Truth be told, Dbanj now relies on his old glory in order not to lose relevance in the Nigerian music industry. In an era where the likes of Tekno, Eazi, Wizkid and Reekado Banks are sitted in the front roll of Nigerian music, calling the shots, Dbanj who calls himself the Koko master has sadly been dethroned
D’Banj recently released a new song “It’s not a Lie.” In the song he cited his claim to fame, narrating the highpoints of his career. For an artiste who has left the scene for a while, we expected Dbanj to up the ante and give us something worth talking about, unfortunately he failed to soar in the song.
In the song he collaborates with Wande Coal and Harrysong and the trio sampled their voice on the trending Ghana inspired highlife beat spreading like wildfire in the African music space. In the song, Harrysong can be christened ‘ Mr Steal your glory’ as he brilliantly delivers his vocals reminding one of his hit song Reggae Blues. His tone and pitch sounds believable and melodious. Without Dbanj’s constant chant in the song, you would think you are listening to an Harrysong tune.
Wande Coal’s delivery in the song is nothing short of average. His vocals are simple and only sparkled when he switched his high-pitched voice. Dbanj will need a supernatural shift in order to take back his place in the industry. He will have to go back to the drawing board, revisiting the recipe that made his music delicacies irresistible during his Mo’Hits days
