Apaokagi Maryam better known as Taaooma is a popular social media comedienne and influencer making waves in the Nigerian entertainment landscape.
In this interview with TheNewsGuru, she opens up on how it all began.
You have been doing comedy for some time, how did it all start?
It all started five years ago. Abula inspired me to start. He taught me how to use the camera, and an editing software called premiere pro. He used to make comedy visual effects skits then so I got interested too and glory be to Almighty Allah everything is going smoothly.
How were you able to build such a huge following on social media?
Allahmdulilah it’s only God and consistency that made it happen. You just have to know what your fans want, then deliver it all the time.
Negative comments are inevitable, what are some of the negative comments you get from people?
Funny enough, my team do not allow me to go through comments. They read and give me feedbacks on what we can improve on.
When did you notice you had a flair for comedy?
I really didn’t have any flair for comedy at first, all I wanted to learn was how to edit slideshows and all. That made me jump into comedy.
Have you ever been chastised for any of your skits?
No, I have not been chastised.
What is the inspiration behind the contents of your videos generally?
African parents inspire my contents. We all grew up with them .So relating the experiences to the videos hasn’t been difficult.
Which of your skits made you popular
The skit focused on when ‘Your mother drives you to school’ made me popular.
Have you ever considered closing your Instagram page?
Years back, I thought of it at some point. When I thought of how long it will take me to get here.
Can you share the weird experiences you have had online?
One weird experience I have had online is that there are lots of parody accounts with my name, they are just too much.
