According to the latest box office report released by Filmhouse Entertainment, Funke Akindele’s a.k.a Jenifa Omo Ghetto The Saga, has become Nollywood’s highest-grossing film of all time.
The movie which boasts of a star studded cast, tops N500 million in its 38 days of screening beating any Nollywood movie ever produced for the cinemas.
According to Wikipedia, ‘Omo Ghetto (The Saga)’ grossed over ₦189 million in the opening week since its release and it historically became the first Nollywood film ever to gross over ₦99 million in its opening weekend surpassing the previous record set by The Wedding Party 2.
Omo Ghetto: The Saga also known as Omo Ghetto 2 is a 2020 Nigerian gangster comedy film co-directed by Funke Akindele and JJC Skillz. The film stars Funke Akindele, Chioma Akpota, Nancy Isime and Eniola Badmus in the lead roles. This was the second film in the Omo Ghetto franchise, and it was also the sequel to the 2010 trilogy film Omo Ghetto.
The original Omo Ghetto tells the story of twin sisters reunited by a series of dramatic twists. The film’s plot is woven around two twins (played by Funke as Ayomide and Lefty) separated at birth. Twenty years later, both are living two completely different lives. One is a ghetto kid and leader of a notorious female gang. The other, a pretty rich girl, is raised in affluence and has anger issues.
