Afegbai disclosed that sometimes condoms are distributed for free, but it is a rarity to find sanitary pads distributed for free.

In a chat with Ndani TV, she said:” A condom is as cheap as N50, while a sanitary pad costs for as much as N400 for a woman that bleeds every month, you cannot even control it and if you have heavy flows you need like two pads”.

Speaking further, Afegbai said women don’t have control over their monthly menstruation, hence sanitary pads should be free.

“You can buy cigarette for like N200 and they would still write cigarette kills .Why can’t we make sanitary pads free? Free for students. I hear people still use newspapers, and towels. As a woman, we don’t have control over our body. This is something we have to experience every month. Sanitary pads should be free. People share free condoms, why can’t we share free sanitary pads?”
