Tasha Cobbs reacts over collaboration with Nicki Minaj
Beautiful worship leader and gospel artiste, Tasha Cobbs unveiled her fourth album Heart, Passion.Pursuit last Friday. However, a song on the album has generated outrage among Christians . The track is titled I am getting ready and it features sexy rapper, Nicki Minaj.
Amazingly, Tasha has decided to stand behind her resolution to collaborate with Nicki Minaj.
She asserted that her assignment with the song was for a particular audience, adding that some listeners who had never experienced God, did through the song.
The award-winning gospel artiste made this known in an interview with Essence Magazine
“I’ve seen the Nicki that is off the stage and that Nicki has a great relationship with God.My assignment with this song was for a particular audience. Some of the listeners have never experienced God ever and she exposed that audience in her way, to the God that she loves” she told Essence Magazine.
When asked about the testimonies that have emanated from the song, she said: “The testimonies that have come because of this —I would absolutely do it again. I’ve had thousands of people say to me .This is the first time I’ve ever bought a gospel album. This is first time I’ve ever felt God. I didn’t believe in God until I heard this song.’”
“This is not an assignment that man gave to me. This is an assignment that God gave to me, and He prepared the way for me, as only God could,” she added.
Tasha started her solo music career in 2010, with the independently self-released album Smile. This got the attention of EMI Gospel (now Motown Gospel), and they released her EP, Grace, on February 5, 2013. This was listed on two Billboard charts: the Billboard 200 at No. 61, and at No. 2 on the Top Gospel Albums chart.
The EP later reached No. 1 on the Top Gospel Albums chart.The singles “Break Every Chain” and “For Your Glory” also reached No. 1 on the Hot Gospel Songs charts. At the 56th Annual Grammy Awards in 2014, Tasha Cobbs took home Best Gospel/Contemporary Christian Music Performance, winning her first Grammy. Cobbs was awarded the Gospel Artist of the Year, at the 2015 GMA Dove Awards.
