One half of popular Afro-pop group Skuki, Peeshaun has averred that their failure to forge important human connections cost them a lot as a group.
Peeshaun whose real name is Atewologun Laolu-Ogunniyi made this known as a speaker during the recently held virtual summit ‘Recall for men’.
Emphasizing on the need for people to build relationships, the singer and relationship coach said:” When we released our first song ‘Banger’, we just wanted the success to pave way for us. The song was a success, we went on to win ‘Next Rate Award’, but we didn’t build connections. The entertainment industry, just like any other industry, you need human resources, you need human connections. We didn’t tap into connections. We needed to have a relationship with the DJs, we needed to have a relationship with on air personalities, and we didn’t.
“The song just blew and we just thought they should play it like that. Off course Nigerian way, you would still have to give someone brown envelope. That still does not work like having a relationship with them.If you have a relationship with them, you call them on their birthday, you call them when they are having naming ceremony, there is no way they won’t play your song because you are their guy. That really cost I and my brother (Skuki) a lot because we were always going the hard way. When we release a song, we spend a lot of money and it will fizzle. If we had built connections there are so many shows we would have gotten on. There were many shows we were qualified to perform on, we didn’t perform because we just didn’t build a relationship with anybody. It’s not only in the entertainment industry, its in all industries, human beings are the ones that runs the system”.
