Abba Bichi, son of Yusuf Bichi, the director-general (DG) of the Department of State Services (DSS), has described Obi Cubana as “a man of dignity”.
Cubana, the Abuja-based business mogul, was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Monday for alleged money laundering.
The 46-year-old socialite was also questioned at the headquarters of the EFCC in Jabi, Abuja.
TheNewsGuru recalls that Cubana, whose real name is Obinna Iyiegbu, had attracted massive social media attention after he staged an extravagant funeral for his late mother in Anambra.
Many questioned the source of his wealth, a question he has had to answer in several media interviews.
Reacting to news of his detention, Abba took to his Instagram page to describe Cubana as “a man of honour and integrity”.
Cubana, when questioned about his open display of wealth said how he spends his money cannot be dictated to him by the public.
“I don’t have time for people who want to tell me how to spend the money that I made through my own efforts,” he had said.
“It’s waste of time replying to such people. They’re only criticising me because they don’t want others to succeed.
“We didn’t plan it (the burial) this way. It’s not about money. Money couldn’t have gotten us such a huge crowd, it was out of the goodwill that I enjoy from the public.”
