Bob Marley’s impact on world music cannot be expunged. The legendary Reggae Musician created a revolution with the weapon of music.
On this day, 37 years ago, he passed away. He was born on February 6, 1945, on his grandfather’s farm in Nine Mile, Saint Ann Parish to a British father and Jamaican mother.
According to reports, Marley never won a Grammy Award for any of his specific works. He did, however, win a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Grammy in 2001. His sons Ziggy Marley and Stephen Marley have each won five Grammy Awards, and his Damian has won three. Marley’s former Wailers bandmates Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer won one and three Grammy Awards, respectively.
Unknown to many, Marley’s music has continued to be played and loved even after his death. In 2016, he was the sixth highest-earning dead celebrity in the world, according to Forbes, preceded by fellow musicians Prince, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson.
In 2014, the Bob Marley and the Wailers greatest hits album “Legend” cracked the Billboard Top 10 list after Google Play made it available for 99 cents.
