Why did you decide to be a filmmaker, after succeeding as a comedian?

Is it my fault that I have a lot of talent? Being multi-talented and being able to express yourself is a great gift. I have done a bit of everything and have achieved a level of success in them. I have done stand-up comedy, stage plays, radio presentations, skits and sketches, worked as a talk-show host and now it’s time for a full movie

My new movie ‘200 Million’ was inspired by current happenings in Nigeria ,the fate of the average young Nigeria being the unemployed youth in relation to money, religion and politics.

What impact do you see the movie making?

Only God can decide what impact it would make, I have spent money and want to make my money back.

Talking about recouping your investments, would you say FG has been supportive in terms of creating an enabling environment for Nollywood?

Nollywood will thrive with or without FG’s involvement, Nollywood got to where it is with the selfless commitment of a few result driven actors and marketers. However our leaders in power need to harness and tap into the huge potentials that the industry brings into the country .See what Hollywood is making for America and we have followed that path with Nollywood making huge figures at the cinemas. We need to work together, FG needs to take entertainment seriously, create a solid ministry for it and provide funding, technical support and training”.

What were the challenges you encountered while shooting the movie?

I encountered normal Nigerian challenges, factors that have become part of our everyday lives and most importantly funding, gathering money to do a huge project like this is not child’s play

You recently opened up on your depression story. What made you share the story and are you satisfied with the impact it has made so far?

No comment Sir,’ 200million’ is the focus for now

Would you advise entertainers to take advantage of the BBNaija platform?

BBNaija creates happiness for some people and money making for some others.

It’s okay as long as there is no addiction to it. I just would have loved it if some of the things being shown had more moral and leadership values. Entertainers are already milking the platform by performing at the eviction shows. It’s all part of showmanship and entertainment, a path to thrive in one’s chosen endeavour.

What is your opinion on the Nigerian comedy industry?

The Nigerian comedy industry is fast thriving; we are not where we use to be and not where we are going to yet. It has become a multi -billion industry in the last ten years .More than 300 comedians are making a good living and huge difference in the business. No event is complete without a comedian performing.

Whose advice has been instrumental to your success?

I understudy almost everyone in the industry as there is always something to learn from . I am a lover of foreign comedies as it lays the footpath for what I am always willing to do next. Basorge Tariah has helped moulded my thoughts and belief in the Nigerian comedy industry.
