Years back, Fuji music maestro, Abass Akande Obesere didn’t get the mainstream appeal he needed for his groovy song ‘Egungun be careful’.Amazingly 19 years later, the ‘Omo rapala’s tune has become one of the most talked about songs on social media.

The song that advised masquerades to be careful about walking into oncoming traffic was accompanied by a funny video and it traveled fast. People can now relate to the message of the song and found the video hilarious. Thanks to the recent Okada ban which made Nigerians resonate with the message of the song.

The self proclaimed ‘ Abassido’ who has released about 15 albums, including his 2009 album, “Revolution” that featured artistes like 9ice, was blacklisted by many people who didn’t agree with his cheeky ‘asakasa’ style of music.

Now that the song is trending, Nigerians on Twitter are comparing him to Naira Marley and Terry G

Popular social commentator, Japheth Omojuwa opined that Obesere can leverage on the new found popularity of the song to bounce back.

“I am happy for Obesere, people were never going to indulge a 50-year old man sing Consolijapo and Skesko aya mi nja so evolution was always going to be tough. But surely, there is a chance to test the waters again, but who wants to be a clown for kids at 50? Evolution it is then!”

Another twitter user, Omotayo of Lagos, rated the Fuji star over Terry G and Naira Marley.

“Terry G who? Naira Marley who?” he questioned. “Obesere is the real King of Madness, baba perform for several years dressed in ladies costumes, back in the days my father use to call him bad influence, fast forward to 2020 he’s the one giving me joy on the TL, Obesere My GOAT”

Nigerian rapper, Zlatan confessed that he was 6 years old when Obesere released ‘Egungun be careful

“I was 6 years old when Obesere dropped EGUUNGUN 19 years later E DON HAPPEN”.

In the same vein music producer, Samklef noted that Obesere’s renaissance is a lesson in God’s grace.

 

“Obesere come back shows Grace will always find you. Never look down on anybody….dry bone shall rise again”.
