Popular actress, Uche Ogbodo has said unmarried women who have attained the age of 30 and above should not consider abortion because they may never be able to conceive again.
The actress spoke in an Instagram live session on Wednesday where she addressed women’s pressure with societal pressure when it comes to marriage and childbearing.
Mentioning herself as an example, Ogbodo condemned the stigmatisation of women who have babies out of wedlock in the society.
Ogbodo, however, said she remains unperturbed by the criticisms, noting that she is happy having a boyfriend.
“Many girls between 30 to 40 are dying to be married, to have a family, doing all sort of things so they can have a baby…some of them wait till 45 yet no husband. This is because the society will criticise them for having a baby out of wedlock,” she said.
“You’re aborting a baby at 35 and 40 because of what people would say, are you okay? When you get to 40 and you’re pregnant without a husband, please don’t abort it. If you do who will take care of you when you are old?”
Speaking further, she said women must drop the mentality that they must get married at any cost.
“It’s so painful when I see a lot of girls my age, they don’t look beautiful anymore and they were so pretty. I saw one yesterday I had to go back to the page to refresh…she was looking haggard, old and ugly,” she added.
“Please, stop killing your children, especially when you’re of age. Have your kids. If marriage comes, marry oh, if marriage no come, raise your children now. It’s not everyone that must get married.
“I’m 34. I already have a kid. This is going to be my second child. I have a boyfriend who loves me, I’m happy and I’m having my baby.”
