The wife of the Cross River State Governor, Rev. Eyoanwan Otu has flagged off the Children’s Annual Carnival Calabar.

It will be recalled that the Children’s Carnival was removed from the annual Carnival calendar by the past administration but was restored by the administration of Senator Otu to add more colour to the annual festival.

Flagging off the four kilometer rout dance filled with thrills and fun for the children yesterday at the take off point, Millennium Park in Calabar, the Wife of the Cross River State Governor, Rev. Eyoanwan Otu said “children are gift of any nation, so they deserved to be celebrated.”

She added, “We know that children are the future of any great nation and we must to encourage them, teach them to add values to the society and teach them to respect their elders, their parents, their teachers, and then, give them what it takes to add value to whatever they have as their right. Having fun is part of their right which we must not take away from them.

“We have to make them feel at home and to know that they are loved by us and will continue to love them.”

She however commended Senator Florence Ita Giwa for her unshaken support and love and flavour through her band to the annual Carnival Calabar for decades.

Speaking earlier, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu, also commended Governor Bassey Otu for bringing back the Children’s Carnival, as she congratulated the children who were excited.

While preaching end to wantom killings across Nigeria and the world, she said the celebration of the Carnival Calabar was a symbol of humanity and urged everyone to embrace peace and be kind to one another.

” As a nation, as a people, we race a voice for humanity to say that we should bring an end to every war, every uncalled for killing everywhere around the world and in Nigeria.

“We must be our brother’s keeper and we must value what God has given to us which is life. This is humanity carnival and it is time for our children to exercise ang get stronger.
