Robber surrenders to police, fingers greedy SARS officer as gang leader

Asom Ubi, a police officer working with Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Lagos, has been arrested after being exposed by an armed robbery gang member he cheated.

According to a report published in Newtelegraph, the informant had stormed the office of the operatives of the Inspector-General of Police Special Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Lagos State Police Command, located at the Ikeja, GRA, to surrender himself.

He was quoted to have said: ā€œIā€™m a robber! My gang stole the missing truck and container, with its N147 million worth of goods.ā€ He also revealed that Ubi was their gang leader.

After several minutes of drilling by Officer Philip, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) in charge of the IRT Unit in Lagos State, it was established that he was telling the truth.

According to him, Ubi had led them to snatch a GNLD truck with goods valued at N147million, which they later sold for N45m. However, trouble started when Ubi gave him N150k as his share, instead of N3m.

Angry and feeling cheated, the informant decided to give himself up to the police just to ensure that Ubi was arrested. It was further alleged that, after being arrested, Ubi confessed to the crime.
