The Chinese citizen Mr. Geng who allegedly stabbed to death his Nigerian lover, Ummulkulsum Buhari has been arraigned before a chief magistrate court sitting at Normansland in Kano.
The Police charged the culprit with only one-count charge of culpable homicide in the killing of the 23-year-old graduate of Kampala University in Uganda, according to the police spokesman.
Recall that Geng reportedly scaled the fence of the victim and stabbed her multiple times over allegations of betrayal and failed promise of marriage.
The said act was reported to have taken place at Kuntau residence, Janbullo general area of Kano metropolis.
Ummukulsum Buhari was said to be a graduate of Agriculture Science from Kampala University, Uganda, and after graduating, she was undergoing her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) year at Sokoto.
It was gathered that both Geng and Buhari had a love affair between them before the lady chose to settle with another man (Nigerian) in Kano.
However, Ummukulsum Buhari’s marriage never lasted and she was said to have returned to her family house to continue her normal life.
Abubakar Mustapha, a neighbour to the deceased, told newsmen that she was a divorcee and the suspect was her boyfriend.
“ The murderer was her boyfriend since before she got married. Her husband divorced her and they went on with their friendship as boyfriend and girlfriend. He often went to her house. She was taken to UMC Zhair Hospital not more than a kilometre away from her house and she died.”
The account explained that Mr. Geng, who felt jilted by Ummukulsum Buhari’s allegedly scaled the perimeter fence, sneaked into her room and slaughtered her in cold blood.
A report said a family member and well-wishers who had tried to save her life took her to the nearby health facility, where she reportedly gave up the ghost.
The suspect was rescued from a mob by the police and taken to their station.
The Chinese community in Kano has condemned the act and asked that the law takes its course.
