A former Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, in Delta State, under Governor Ifeanyi Okowa, Rev (Mrs) Omatsola Williams is dead.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Mrs Williams, who also served in the administration of former Governor James Ibori, died on Sunday night between the hours of 11p.m. and 12 a.m. after a brief illness.
Mrs Williams hails from Warri North Local Government Area. She was one of the top most female politicians in the State, and Member Representing Delta South Senatorial District in the Delta State Sports Commission.
Meanwhile, Ibori has expressed sadness over the demise of Mrs. Omatsola Williams.
This is contained in a condolence message by Ibori released by his Media Assistant, Tony Eluemunor.
The former Delta State Governor described the death of Mrs. Williams as a big blow to the State.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Mrs. Williams was a founding member of the Peoples Democrartic Party (PDP) in Delta.
She served in various capacities in several administrations of State, and was a repository of the State’s contemporary history.
During Ibori’s 1999-2007 administration, Mrs. Williams served first as a member of the State Urban Water Board from 1999 to 2003; and second as member, Governing Council, College of Education, Warri, 2003–2006.
Ibori described Mrs Williams as trustworthy, very focused and energetic and that she served her state worthily and with passion.
Ibori sent his condolence to Mrs. Omatsola William’s immediate family, the state Governor, His Excellency Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa and the good people of Delta state, on this great loss.
He prayed that the Almighty God would also grant the soul of Mrs. Williams, who was a Reverend in the Aladura Church of God, eternal rest.
The Itsekiri-born politician was among the few politicians in the state that have survived in the administrations of the four civilian governors in Delta.
She was a member of the Delta State Sports Council Board from 1992-1993 before she bowed out as a Director of the Delta Civil Service in 1994 during the administration of late Olorogun Felix Ibru.
Rev Omatsola also a member of the Delta State Urban Water Board from 1999 to 2003, Member, Governing Council, College of Education, Warri, 2003–2006 under the administration of former Governor James Ibori.
She was appointed as Commissioner, Directorate of Youths Development during the era of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.
The deceased was later reappointed as commissioner for Women Affairs/ Social Development by incumbent Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
Late Rev. Omatsola survived by a son, Rasheed Adebowale Williams.
