The Independent National Electoral Commission has once again expressed its readiness to conduct the general elections in the country.
Chairman of the commission, Professor Mahmood Yakubu reaffirmed this on Wednesday at a media briefing in Abuja.
Professor Yakubu said all states have commenced the deployment of election materials to local government areas.
According to him, Infact 19 States are fully deployed. By the end of the day all states and FCT would have deployed except Bayelsa which is moving directly to state office in Yenagoa to registration area centre tomorrow.
“Tomorrow, activties at ward levels with the activation of the registration area centres at nine in the morning while the movement of personnel and materials will commence at midday”, he added
Professor Yakubu further disclosed that 84, 004,084million voters were registered nationwide.
He explained that out of these registered voters, 72.775, 502million Permanent Voter Cards PVCs which amounts to 86.63 percent have been collected as at February 11th, 2019 while 11.228.582 million PVCs were uncollected.
Speaking about foreign observers in the country, he said waivers have been given to foreign observers to renew or extend their visas till after the Elections in the country.
His words: “In order to make the process easier, the Nigeria Immigration Service working with the commission is granting the extension of visa to all international observers that requires such facility. Similarly, the Immigration Service is also granting the entry visa to all observers who were able to travel out of the country at the time of the second part of the general elections.”
Responding to questions on security, he said the Nigeria Police is the lead security agency for the general elections adding that other security agencies are meant to assist if the need arises.
