The event was phenomenal and
remarkable in all its ramifications, leaving all attendees over the moon.

Relating his experience with the press at the end of the colourful event, Professor Osunbor described the meeting as highly encouraging, given the nice things said about him by the traditional rulers, who declared robust support for his aspiration.

He said, “I’ve come to visit the enijie (kings) of Esan Land to wish them a happy new year and to inform them about my governorship aspiration under the platform of my political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), and to receive and pray in whatever way possible for me the nomination under the platform of my political party and, of course, thereafter to support me in the general election,” said Osunbor, who, in his usual utmost humility, kneeled down with his lovely wife, Lady Ussieh Osunbor, to receive the blessings of the enijie.

He continued: “I was very well received; I know many of them; we have lived together for a long time. They were all very happy to see me, just as I was happy to see them. They prayed for me, wished me well, and said so many nice things about me. This is very encouraging.

Senator Osunbor is widely revered for being amiable, honest, and respectful—virtues that have made him shoulders above his contemporaries, setting him apart as a role model to the younger generations.

Perhaps his most recurring virtue is humility, seeing life as a learning curve and never taking anyone or relationships for granted.

This he exhibited profoundly while speaking at the August gathering, where he took the enijie down memory lane, highlighting his track record, his reverence for the traditional institutions, and his resolve to keep at it, given a second chance at the plump position he occupied briefly between 2007 and 2008.

Expectedly, the highly erudite legal luminary left the audience awed by his sheer display of humility that has always endeared him to people from all walks of life. He implored the traditional rulers to feel free to invite him any time they think he needs some advice, adding that he doesn’t claim to know it all.

“If there’s any area you feel I need advice in because no one knows it all, I will be happy to be invited and advised. Thanks to everyone for what you did before and what you will still do,” he said amid thunderous applause.

The occasion was made grand by the Okhinabojie Dance of Iruekpen, Ekpoma, which continuously serenaded everyone with their sonorous voices and enthralling dance steps, accentuating the rich cultural heritage of Esan Land. They extolled Senator Osunbor with many songs, notably Ojie ma vae (our king has come).

Senator Osunbor is sanguine about the prospect of securing the ticket of his party and emerging victorious at the polls in September. He exuded this confidence while bidding the Enijie farewell at the end of proceedings.

He said, “I quite appreciate it. I wish all of you a happy and prosperous new year. I pray that before the end of the year, you will have a brand new governor of Edo State. That brand new governor of Edo State will be my humble self and my wife. By the grace of God, we will be here to celebrate the new year in 2025 with our royal highnesses as the governor.”

The kernel of it all is that all Esan traditional rulers have resolved to support Professor Senator Oserheimen Osunbor, the only aspirant they know enough to trust and vouch for.
