Donald Trump won the US presidential election back in November 2016 shattering the expectations of so many people around the globe.

The Republican nominee has achieved one of the most improbable political victories in modern US history despite a series of controversies that would easily have destroyed other candidacies.

Shortly after losing the elections, Hillary Clinton, called Trump to concede, but did not make a public address immediately.

Speaking shortly after his victory, Trump apologized to his excited supporters chanting “U-S-A, U-S-A” saying “Sorry to keep you waiting, complicated business, complicated business”.

“I have just received a call from Secretary Clinton. She congratulated us – it’s about us and our victory – and I congratulated her on a very hard-fought campaign.

“Now it is time for Americans to bind the wounds of division. It is time for us to become together as one united people… I pledge to every citizen of our land that I will be president for all Americans,” he added.

All through the campaign, Trump is renowned for extreme policies that have drawn criticism from both sides of the aisle, a record of racist and sexist behaviour, and a lack of conventional political experience.

Trump and his wife, Melania first attended a traditional church service at St John’s Episcopal Church near the White House on Friday morning of his inauguration, had coffee with Barack Obama and Michelle Obama before heading for the Capitol in a motorcade with the out gone POTUS and his wife, with musical performances already in waiting at the inauguration ceremony venue.

In an opening remark before Mike Pence was sworn in as Vice President by Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, and welcoming the cheerful crowd, the speaker said the day is not about the “celebration of victory but the celebration of democracy”.

Religious leaders offered prayers and read the beatitudes before Pence took his oath of office.

In his speech, Trump thanked the people of the world and reiterated commitments to rebuild the US, and restore the American Dream. He accepted challenges would come but that he will surmount them.

He said “we are transferring power from Washington D. C. to you, back to the people. This moment is your moment. It belongs to you”.

“From this day forward, it going to be America first. We will bring back our dream. The time for empty talk is over. Now arrives the hour of action” President Trump added.

President Donald Trump expressed gratefulness to Former President Obama and his wife, Michelle, but stressed America has been neglected for too long.

“We will make America great again,” President Trump concluded.

Shortly after the inauguration, Congress will host a luncheon in the Capitol. Thereafter, Trump and Pence will be embarking on a 1.5 mile (2.4km) parade down Pennsylvania Avenue.

Trump, Pence and their wives will also later attend three official inaugural balls. Two balls will be held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, and the third, the Salute to Our Armed Services Ball, will take place at the National Building Museum. The same night, Planned Parenthood will hold its Pink Ball at the Carol Whitehill Moses Center in D.C.

Trump and Pence will on Saturday attend the interfaith National Prayer Service at the Washington National Cathedral before the Women’s March on Washington same Saturday.

Former President Bill Clinton and Hillary Clinton, who lost to Trump in November’s election attended the Inauguration ceremony. George Bush and his wife, Laura, as well as Jimmy Carter were also at the ceremony.

Former President George H. W. Bush, who was in hospital for respiratory problems, had written a letter to Trump wishing him well and apologizing for missing the event due to health concerns.

Trump begins official duties at the White House as the 45th POTUS on Monday 22 2017.

“I mean my day one is going to be Monday because I don’t want to be signing and get it mixed up with lots of celebration,” he told the Times.

Trump had vowed he would roll back many of Obama’s policies on “day one” in office with Trump’s spokesman Sean Spicer saying Trump as President Trump might take four or five executive actions after he is sworn in.
