The Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC) has finally fixed a date to hold local government area councils elections in the State.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports DSIEC announced the date in a notice of election published on Tuesday, saying the notice was in accordance with the State’s electoral commission law of 2017.
The electoral commission said elections into the offices of chairmanship and councilorships would hold on Saturday 6th March, 2021.
Approved candidates sponsored by the registered political parties were advised by the notice to collect apropriate nomination forms from the office of the DSIEC headquarters, between the hours of 8 o’clock in the forenoon and 4 o’clock in the afternoon from Tuesday the 2nd day of February 2021 to Wednesday the 3rd day of February 2021.
“Nomination forms duly completed as required by the above law must be returned to the commissions headquarters not later than 4 o’clock in the afternoon on Friday the 5th day of February 2021,” the notice reads.
Meanwhile, Chairman of DSIEC, Mike Ogbodu had disclosed the commission needed N1.147 billion for the conduct of the forthcoming local government elections.
Ogbodu disclosed this while defending the 2021 budget proposal at the state House of Assembly Committee on establishment, ethics and privileges, chaired by Innocent Anidi.
The DESIEC boss said N900 million was proposed for the conduct of the elections, while N247 million was for related activities, including legal matters, post election seminars, trainings, among others.
