DELSU to hold symposium, day of tributes for Late Prof Bright Ekuerhare

The Faculty of the Social Sciences of the Delta State University, Abraka, will on Wednesday 11th August host a memorial symposium and day of tributes in honour of the late Professor Bright UkoriEkuerhare who died recently. In a statement issued by Professor AtareOtite, the Dean of the Faculty and Dr. C. T. Ezi, the Head of the Department of Economics, the event which will begin at 10 am will hold in the Faculty Small Lecture Theatre.

The guest speaker is Professor Victor Ted Jike who will be speaking on “Democratic Paradox and the Threshold of Economic Crises in Nigeria”.The Chairman of the event is Professor Mike Obadan of the University of Benin, while Professor Sam Oyovbaire, former Federal Minster of Information and Chairman of the Governing Council of the University, Abraka is the special guest of honour.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Andy Egwunyenga, is the chief host. Discussants include Professor Patrick Muoboghare, Delta State Commissioner for Higher Education, Professor Emmanuel Mordi, former Chairman ASUU-DELSU and Professor Dicta Ogisi, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture, DELSU.

Tributes are expected from Professor G. G. Darah, Professor Christopher Orido and Professor Godwin Demaki, incumbent Chairman ASUU-DELSU.

Professor Ekuerharewas educated at the Universities of Ibadan and Manchester. He returned to Nigeria in the 1970s and taught at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria and the old Bendel State University, now Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.

He relocated to DELSU in 1992 and became the founding Dean of the Faculty of the Social Sciences.

He was at different times Provost and Deputy Vice Chancellor at DELSU before he retired some years ago. A radical with strong leftist convictions, he was also very active in the affairs of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
