Delta State Police Command has arrested a wanted and self-confessed kidnapping kingpin who hails from Langtang in Plateau State but is causing untold criminal mayhem on citizens of Delta State.
Disclosing this in a statement, Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, Ibrahim Zanna said, “On Wednesday 7th June, 2017, at about 12.45 pm, operatives of Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad (SAKCCS) led by Inspector Julius Robinson, within the Hausa Market, along Benin-Asaba express road, opposite Maryam Babanguda Junction arrested the suspect.
“The kingpin, one Tanko David aka Yakubu Mopol, 29, is a native of Langtang town of Plateau State.
The suspect, who had been on the command’s watch list, belongs to the deadly kidnap syndicate headed by one Salihu Tola, dismissed military personnel who was earlier arrested.
Continuing, the Police said “The syndicate specializes in the kidnap of mostly female victims within Asaba and environs adding that suspect confessed to series of kidnappings in Asaba and its environs along with some named cohorts.
In another development, the State Police Command said its operatives its Eagle Net Squad rescued 5 kids at Ozoro who were earlier kidnapped but were abandoned following a hot pursuit by the police.
The Police said, “At about 7.25 pm on Wednesday 7th, 2917, the Eagle Net Squad received a distress call that one Mrs. Mariam Ofili was accosted with her 5 kids at the gate of her residence at Osubi area of Warri.
“They were accosted by 4 armed men while returning from church. While the woman escaped for safety, her 5 kids were abducted along with her Lexus Jeep RX330 Model and the colour was golden with Reg. No. Mimi 1.
“After a hot chase led by ASP Shehi Mainasara and teams attached to the team, the abducted kids were later abandoned and rescued. The hoodlums were chased up to Ozoro where they later abandoned the victim’s jeep and ran into a nearby bush.
“The policed teams are currently combing the bush for possible arrest and the rescued kids re-united with their parents.
“The recovered Lexus jeep and the Delta State Commercial coloured tricycle with Reg. No used by the hoodlums, also recovered to base for necessary action”.
