Fire guts Lagos govt staff quarters, destroys multi- million naira properties

The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), has attributed the cause of a fire that engulfed the Lagos State Government staff quarters to an electrical surge that emanated from the children’s room.

The fire reportedly started at around 2.30 am on Friday and destroyed several properties worth millions of Naira.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) gathered that the fire started at the quarters located at Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road in Ogba, Ikeja, affecting one of the two-bedrooms in Flat 5, of Block 21, a two-winged, three-story building of 16 two-bedroom flats.

Reacting, the Head of the Public Affairs Unit, LASEMA, Nosa Okunbor, said:  “The fire completely consumed the children’s bedroom, resulting in loss of properties worth millions of Naira.”

The fire has since been fully extinguished through the combined efforts of LASEMA, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and the Nigeria Police Force.

“A thorough investigation conducted by the Agency’s LRT unveiled that the fire originated from an electrical surge in the children’s room.

“The prompt and coordinated efforts of the Agency’s LRT, NPF, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, ensured the fire was contained and extinguished quickly,” the LASEMA spokesperson added.

Fortunately, there was no loss of life, nor injuries sustained in the incident.
