Flooding: Tinubu arrives flood-ravaged Maiduguri

President Bola Tinubu on Monday arrived in Maiduguri on Monday visited Maiduguri, Borno State capital to condole with the government and people of the state over the Alau Dam flood disaster.

The president’s visit comes on the heels of his recent working trips to China and the United Kingdom, having returned to Nigeria late Sunday.

The president who was transported to Maiduguri via a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Dassault Falcon 7X jet with the registration number 5N-FGV was received by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, and Governor Babagana Zulum, among others.

This president’s visit follows an earlier sympathy mission led by Vice President Kashim Shettima on September 10.

Shettima who led a Federal Government delegation visited Maiduguri to sympathize with thousands of people who were displaced following the incident.

Addressing the victims, during his visit at Bakassi IDP camp, the Vice president said that the unfortunate situation was as an act of God.

The VP in the company of the state governor and other dignitaries were ferried in a military truck to gain access to Shehu of Borno whose palace was consumed by the disaster.

While addressing the Borno Monarch, Shettima offered his sympathy to the Emirate Council.

“We are here at the palace to sympathize with you and the Emirate over the unfortunate incident,” he said. 

“The Federal Government has approved 50 trucks of rice which are now on the way to Maiduguri for onward distribution for the victims.”
