The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has commended the Federal Government for the ongoing reconstruction works on major road corridors in the South-East for easy traffic during the yuletide season.
The FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer, Mr Samuel Obayemi, made the commendation on Sunday in Enugu in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Obayemi, who is in-charge of Abia, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo States, spoke to NAN after he inspected repairs on major road corridors and arteries in the four states.
He said that the ongoing reconstruction was a great relief to the members of the motoring public, travellers as well as officers of the FRSC.
“I must laud the Federal Government for its timely intervention through the ongoing reconstruction of major road corridors within the South-East; it is a big relief to all road users, regular and special marshals of the FRSC.
“As I observed; most of the contractors handling the roads had already fully repaired one section of the roads to be put in use by motorists this yuletide, while proper reconstruction work is ongoing in the other section of the roads,’’ Obayemi said.
The zonal commander, however, urged motorists and travellers to set out on time from their base in order to travel on moderate speed since most of the roads in the zone had only one section in use.
“The important thing is making the road passable without hitch; which the Federal Government had succeeded in doing; but motorists and road users must do their own part by driving with care.
“Motorists must take it easy and drive on moderate speed to get to their destinations safely.
“FRSC will be on hand to book any driver who drives recklessly or make dangerous overtaking that could threaten the lives of other road users,’’ he warned.
NAN reports that the major road corridors within the zone include: Enugu-Onitsha; Enugu-Nsukka- Obollo Afor; Enugu-Port Harcourt; Enugu-Abakaliki and Enugu-Udi-Oji River roads, among others.
