Governor Yusuf warns of ‘politicians’ plot to hijack Kano protest

Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has raised concerns about a plot by unnamed politicians to hijack the upcoming protest on August 1 and cause chaos in the state. Speaking on Wednesday, Yusuf stated that his administration has uncovered plans by certain selfish politicians to exploit the protest to create havoc.

The governor expressed his readiness to engage with protesters peacefully at the Government House, emphasizing that he would not flee from the situation. Instead, he invited the protesters to present their grievances, which he promised to convey to President Tinubu alongside other stakeholders.

Governor Yusuf urged the Federal Government to reconsider the current prices of fuel and electricity and to reopen the borders to facilitate the importation of goods. He also called for a reduction in the cost of essential commodities and services to ease the burden on Nigerians.

Reflecting on his administration’s efforts to restore peace in the state, Yusuf revealed that some disgruntled elements and politicians are planning to distribute red caps to thugs to incite violence, loot shops, and harm innocent people during the protest.

To address economic concerns, the governor announced plans to establish a price control office to stabilize and standardize prices of goods within the state. He also mentioned the reintroduction of Public Suggestion Boxes to directly receive feedback from citizens, reiterating his administration’s commitment to improving the lives of the common people.
