How abducted 19-year-old Moroccan university student was killed after N17m ransom payment

The abductors of 19-year-old, Anas Zubairu who was killed during captivity had reportedly collected a ransom of 17m from his family.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Zubairu was abducted around the Project Quarters area of Lafia metropolis on Friday, August 23, 2024.

Confirming the incident in a Facebook post on Sunday, September 1, 2024, a friend of the deceased, Abdullahi Musa Aboki wrote: “In loving memory of my dear friend Anas, whose life was brutally taken by kidnappers despite our collective efforts to save him. The ransom was paid, but their hearts were stone-cold. Your senseless m8rder has left us with unbearable pain and a deep sense of injustice. Your bright smile, kind heart, and infectious laughter were extinguished too soon. May your soul find peace, and may those responsible face the full weight of justice. Your memory will never fade, and your legacy will live on in our hearts. Rest in peace, dear Anas.”

Speaking about Zubairu’s death, the family of the deceased disclosed that they paid N17m ransom for his release.

According to reports, Zubairu, who was a student at a Moroccan university before his death, was on holiday visiting family when he was abducted.

Zubairu was said to have visted his parent’s home and was leaving. However, when he parked his car to secure the gate before driving to his house,  the  kidnappers, shot him in the left shoulder and dragged him away.

Five days later, the abductors contacted the family, demanding N30 million in ransom. Following negotiations, the ransom was reduced to N17 million, which the family paid.

However, two days after the ransom was paid, the kidnappers ceased communication with the family.

Early Sunday morning, they informed the family that Zubairu had been k!lled
