Gboyega Akosile, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State governor on media and publicity has blasted a man calling on the Igbo people residing in Lagos to burn down the state.

This comes after a video of the man, who appears to be from the Southeast, is seen urging Igbos not keep silent over the recently proposed protest tagged #IgboMustGo.

The man in video could be heard saying,“Igbos in Lagos should open their eyes, Do not sleep with your two eyes. When somebody push you, push back. You people should come together now when they are shouting Igbos must go. Plan how you will defend yourself, and your property. Plan how you will throw them inside the Lagoon. First of all, when it starts, go straight to Oba, throw him inside Lagoon. Burn down Lagos.”

Reacting to the video, Akosile via the microblogging platform, X on Saturday condemned the hateful video, after which stressed that such divisive, and bigoted comments which are capable of inciting violence against Lagosians and, by extension, Yorubas, who are peaceful people will not be tolerated.

“We call on all well-meaning Nigerians to stand up against this kind of person and many of his type, while at the same time inviting the relevant law enforcement agencies to speedily look into this act. We can’t allow actions of people like this continue to cause division and ultimately ethnic-based crisis in our land.”
