TEMNPLC’S 2023 L.E.A.D Career Project Motivates Students on career path

In its bid to contribute to the eradication of illiteracy  and equip students in the country with needed tools and skills to earn and keep a job in high-growth career industries, TotalEnergies L.E.A.D Career project and JA Nigeria (JAN) organized a career growth program for selected secondary schools students in Nigeria.

Tagged ‘L.E.A.D career program’ with the theme ‘building a sustainable future through youth leadership’.

The 10th edition of the TotalEnergies L.E.A.D career program’ was held inside the premises of TotalEnergies in Apapa, Lagos, Nigeria on Wednesday, July 5th, 2023.

The program which was centered on student’s career planning, Collaboration, Communication, Conflict management was divided into three segments; interactive section, Job Shadowing and visitation to TotalEnergies depot.

L.E.A.D (Learn, Experience, Articulate & Decide) is a sustainable development initiative of TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc. (TEMNPLC) with the objective of building the knowledge of senior secondary school students on career choices, prospects, requirements, and pathways.

Many students across selected public and private secondary schools were in attendance with many attending virtually.

The students  were lectured and taken through the rudiments of  applying critical-thinking skills and creativity to solve problems in a real-life work scenario.

Addressing the students on career path, Mrs Adesua Adewole, General Manager, TotalEnergies country services lectured the students on how to set goals for themselves and ways to pursue them.

She advised them to always set laid down rules as a means to achieving their goals in line with their career path.

The second speaker, Mr Israel Okeyinya who is the climate change and sustainability Expert for international Organization FABE, took the students on the rudiments of climate change and how it affect humanity.

Okeyinka also lectured the students on the sustainable development goals SDGs and its significant impacts on the country’s economy.

In his address, the Managing Director, TEMNPLC, Dr. Samba Seye remarked that the initiative started in 2014 from a physical event to a hybrid with increased participation across the country.

“TotalEnergies Marketing Nigeria Plc. has implemented this programme in 154 with over 3,740 students directly benefitting.”

Dr. Seye remarked that, “the company is committed to the education of young people, and as such, places a high premium on educational initiatives such as the L.E.A.D Career project. The contribution of education in the development of any country cannot be over-emphasised.”

Principal Education Officer, Education District 4, Mrs. Omolaoye Adebisi remarked that the Lagos State Ministry of Education is passionate about student’s development and encourages partnerships with organisations like TotalEnergies. She used the opportunity to encourage the girlchildren to explore more the field of engineering just like their male counterparts.

Earlier, the General Manager, TotalEnergies Country Services, Mrs. Adesua Adewole had an interactive discussion with the students on Leadership, the values expected and how to define what they stand for.

After receiving theoretical lectures for four hours, the students were taken for job shadowing, where they were paired with mentors who showed them practical steps of their mode of  operation at TotalEnergies.

The students reconvened much later for a proper view of the Total Energies depot.
