Just In: Court slams N10 million bail on #EndBadGovernance protesters

The Federal High Court in Abuja on Wednesday slammed ten million Naira bail each on the ten members of the hunger protesters who were charged with attempting to overthrow President Bola Ahmed Tinubu between July 1 and August 4 this year.

According to reports, Justice Nwite ordered the defendants to provide the bail sum of N10 million and one surety in like sum, while delivering a ruling on their bail applications.

Among others, the protesters are to produce one surety each in the same amount, while the sureties must be residents and property owners in Abuja and submit documents of the properties to the court in addition to a swearing affidavit of means.

“I have carefully considered the submission of the counsel on both divides. I hereby grant the defendants bail notwithstanding the crime,” Justice Nwite said.

“The bail is hereby granted to the defendants applicant (sic) in the sum of N10m each and one surety in like some.”

On September 2, Justice Nwite ordered the remand of the protesters at the Kuje Correctional Centre and the Suleja Correctional Centre for planning to overthrow the federal government.
