“I am very excited to be selected to represent Nigeria in the Miss/Mrs Africa UK & Ireland 2024 finals out of a record number of entries that were received by the organisation.

“I am passionate about empowering and supporting young people and I believe the Miss/Mrs Africa UK & Ireland 2024 will serve as a springboard for my passion. I am so excited and I am so looking forward to the journey,” Kate Ododo said.

Organisers of the Miss/Mrs Africa UK & Ireland pageant had disclosed the contest was created for African women over the age of 30 who live in the UK or Ireland, and who would have normally not had the opportunity to work with such a platform and become representatives for others like them on a global scale.

The organisers stressed that the goal of Miss/Mrs Africa UK & Ireland is to remodel how beauty is defined in the world of pageants and to dispel any antiquated notions that they are meant for women with less intelligence and who only advance through their physical attributes.

“This pageant is a platform that emphasises that women of African descent have more to offer than their size, shape, height and general looks in the diaspora. It focuses on the women’s character, integrity, intellect and their contribution and impact on their communities, thereby erasing the stereotypes that diminish the competence and strength of womanhood.

“The Miss/Mrs Africa UK & Ireland pageant champions the belief that no one is ever too old to follow their dreams, achieve what is previously thought impossible and become not only a voice but also an emblem of the positive change that can be made in our society,” a statement by the organisers reads in part.
