The “special dinner”, which was scheduled to hold at 7.00pm in Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, was eventually cancelled.

Recall that Senate has set up a panel to probe the Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation, Dr. Maikanti Baru, over allegations made against him in a petition to President Muhammadu Buhari by the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu, especially as regards the alleged $25bn NNPC scam.

The controversial invitation card which however went viral on the social media as from mid-day yesterday provoked negative reactions raising questions about the propriety of the NNPC boss who is under investigation.

Confirming the position of the lawmakers on the dinner, Senator Omotayo Alasoadura said the members of the Senate rejected the invitation after it became public earlier today.
