Nigerian American Kelechi Ndukwe has taken over social media following the news of his promotion from commander to the rank of Navy captain in the United States.
The chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, (NIDCOM) Abike Dabiri-Erewa, had via the microblogging platform, X shared the news on Friday, congratulating Ndukwe on his achievement.
Dabiri congratulated Kingsley, saying, “A hearty congratulations to Navy Captain Kelechi R Ndukwe who has been promoted to the rank of Navy Captain from Commander, in the US NAVY
“He is the first Nigerian American to Command a US warship #ProudlyNigerian.”
A US Army Officer, Victor Agunbiade also took to his X handle to hail Ndukwe over his achievement saying, “Ladies and Gentlemen, meet the newest US Navy Captain Kelechi Ndukwe.
“The first Nigerian to have a command of US Navy War Ship! Congratulations on your promotion Captain! Well deserved!!!.
“At the promotion ceremony of US Navy Captain Kelechi Ndukwe- a trail blazer!!!”
Ndukwe is the first Nigerian to ever command a US Navy warship.
Other Nigerians have via various social media platforms expressed joy on behalf of Ndukwe’s achievement, commending the US sailor for making the country proud
