Trouble started after a South African farmer disclosed via his X.com handle that he tackles boredom by requesting rides in Nigeria.

Following the revelation, some South Africans embarked on a “Request Nigeria” challenge where they’ll book Uber or Bolts rides in Nigeria to waste the driver’s time and fuel.

According to the South African users, “Nigeria’s currency is devalued, and they won’t be able to afford cancellation fees.”

Feeling aggrieved, Nigerians on social media launched a counterattack on South Africans by requesting rides from South African Bolt drivers, only to cancel or provide false destinations, leaving the drivers stranded with no specific route to follow.

Due to the massive requests from Nigerians, there’s been a reported Bolt surge in Cape Town and Johannesburg, which has left many South Africans stranded over unavailability and expensive rides.

This act of retaliation has caused chaos and disruption to the ride-hailing services in the region.
