Osun assembly passes Universal Basic Education Bill

The Osun House of Assembly on Monday passed the State Universal Basic Education 2017 bill.

The bill was passed after its third reading at the plenary in Osogbo.

The speaker of the assembly, Mr Najeem Salaam in his remarks after the passage of the bill, said the bill would accelerate education advancement in the state.

Najeem said that the bill would give Universal Basic Education board members the opportunity to operate in line with lay down rules and regulations without running foul of the law.

The speaker urged stakeholders in the education sector to work within the ambit of the law in ensuring that the bill placed the state primary education in its rightful position.

Besides, Najeem had directed the state commissioner for works and transport to submit details of the ongoing roads projects in the state to the assembly.

The speaker said the directive became imperative to keep the member of the assembly abreast of development on the various ongoing projects in the state.

He said project details must contain the cost of the projects, bill of quantity and design, among others.
