Dr Dennis Otuaro, the newly appointed Interim Administrator, Presidential Amnesty Programme (PAP), has assured that he would render quality service to the Niger Delta people to ensure sustainability of the programme.
Otuaro said this while receiving the handover notes from retired Maj. – Gen. Barry Ndiomu, the outgoing Interim Administrator.
Ita Henshaw, the Technical Assistant to the former Interim Administrator, represented Ndiomu at the brief ceremony which took place at the PAP Office.
Otuaro, who spoke after receiving the mantle of leadership, said there would be no room for failure as they would work to achieve President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
“I will not betray the trust reposed in me by President Bola Tinubu and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu.
“I urge members of staff to be focused, embrace my principle and give me the requisite cooperation to move the office forward, as I am not in the Amnesty Office to pursue personal gains.
“I need everybody’s cooperation here to take this programme to greatness. My appeal here is as from today, we should back the crowd and face the job.
“I need everyone’s cooperation so that we don’t disappoint the President, the NSA, the people of the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole.
“I believe in this country. Everything about me is in this country and it is also in the Niger Delta.
“We will streamline whatever that we know that is giving us the load to provide excuses, we must streamline some things and we’ll work together,” he said.
Tinubu had last Thursday approved the appointment of Otuaro as Interim Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme.
It would be recalled that Ndiomu resuscitated and trained Type-Rated as Pilots and Aircraft Maintenance Engineers.
He also initiated the Presidential Amnesty Cooperative Scheme, and sustained scholarships of beneficiaries as well as many other flagship initiatives.
The Presidential Amnesty Programme was initiated and signed into law in 2009, to stem youth restiveness, agitation, and ruination of oil processing infrastructure in the Niger Delta region.
The mandate was to disarm, demobilise and reintegrate ex-agitators back into society.
