The death of Femi Ogunrombi, a one-time character of Papa Ajasco in the popular Papa Ajasco comedy series, was announced on Sunday.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports Dr Husseini Shaibu disclosed the death of Ogunrombi in a tweet on his official Twitter handle.
Femi Ogunrombi studied music and drama at Obafemi Awolowo University in the early eighties.
A multi-instrumentalist and music teacher, Ogunrombi was a composer, an actor, producer and director of music/film.
While at OAU, he founded and conducted a Choral group called The Ayoro Voices. This group was the cultural image of the University between 1980 and 1983 respectively.
In 1994, Ogunrombi joined the National Troupe of Nigeria as Music Instructor under the Ministry of Information and Culture.
By 1998, he rose to the position of Director of Music. He inaugurated and conducted the National Choir.
In 1998, he left the government to pursue his own music business. His departure from the government service propelled him to become Art Consultant to different State governments around the country.
He consulted for the Lagos State Council for Arts and Culture 1999 to 2002, the Ekiti State Council for Arts and Culture, 2014 and the Cross River State Council for Arts and Culture, etc.
He was the Art Consultant for the National Troupe of Nigeria until his death.
Meanwhile, in 2006, Ogunrombi joined the popular TV comedy program, Papa Ajasco and Company, created by Wale Adenuga Productions (WAP), as Papa Ajasco.
At the same time, he became the Coordinator of Studies for his PEFTI film Institute.
TNG reports Ogunrombi took over the character of Papa Ajasco when Mr Abiodun Ayoyinka pulled out of the TV series.
Ogunrombi’s preoccupation and passion were producing music, teaching and mentoring the young ones to live productive lives.
