Recently, Pastor Adeboye dropped the title of General Overseer to take on General Overseer Worldwide after the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) manufactured a regulation that resigns all General Overseers of religious body who have served for more than 26 years.

Although, President Muhammadu Buhari has since sacked the main manufacturer of the regulation, Jim Obazee, controversy has, however, continued to trail the FRCN regulation.

Lately, the controversy took a political twist when Pastor Adeboye ordered members of the RCCG to join political parties and register to be card bearing members. Politicians such as Former media aide to the ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri; Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state, hijacking the opportunity, have thrown their weight behind the General Overseer Worldwide of the RCCG.

While Omokri said the Sultan of Sokoto should resign just like Pastor Adeboye and others under the FRCN regulation, Atiku declares Pastor Adeboye is a genuine man of God, and Fayose said the God of Pastor Adeboye will bring down enemies of government.

Recall that the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo was a pastor with the RCCG before becoming a politician, and political analysts have said the numerical strength of the RCCG has aided President Buhari becoming the president of Nigeria.

With President Buhari rumoured to be dead in the United Kingdom (UK), Vice President Osinbajo was rumoured to have been under pressure to resign his office, but the presidency has since debunked these rumours to be false.

Pastor Adeboye who said President Buhari’s government is interfering in church activities, preaching under the theme “The Almighty” at the Holy Ghost Rally in Port Harcourt, stated that God has the capacity to turn any situation around.

Among the people present were the Governor himself; his wife, Justice Eberechi Suzzette Nyesom-Wike; Deputy Governor Ipalibo Harry Banigo; Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt Hon Ikuinyi-Owaji Ibani and members of the Rivers State Executive Council.
