Some photos of the former boyfriend of Rebecca Cheptegei, who was accused of killing the Olympic marathon runner after setting her on fire, have emerged on social media.
TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports that Cheptegei, 33, was severely burned to 80 per cent of her body in a brutal attack that was reportedly carried out by her ex- boyfriend identified as Dickson Ndiema, according to medical officials.
The 33-year-old marathon runner was rushed to the intensive care unit at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret, Kenya, but the facility’s acting director Dr Owen Menach confirmed Cheptegei died on Wednesday night after all her organs failed.
The Trans Nzoia County Police Commander Jeremiah ole Kosiom said on Monday that Cheptegei’s boyfriend, Ndiema, bought a can of petrol, poured it on her and set her on fire during the disagreement.
The suspect who’s recovering from burn injuries sustained during the attack, was also admitted to the same hospital
Cheptegei has two children, aged nine and 11, who are fathered by different men living in Uganda.
One of Cheptegei’s daughters is said to have witnessed the assault at her mother’s home. She told Kenya’s The Standard: ‘He kicked me while I tried to run to the rescue of my mother.
‘I immediately cried out for help, attracting a neighbour who tried to extinguish the flames with water, but it was not possible,’ added the girl, who has not been named.
