UBA security guard who returned missing $10,000, gets $15,000, other rewards

A security guard working with United Bank for Africa (UBA), Mohammed Ogbanago was recently in the news for returning $10,000 he found in the compound of the office complex at Oba Akran Lagos.

At the 2017 UBA CEO Awards, Ogbanago was given a cash prize of $5,000 by the Governor of Adamawa State; $10,000 by the Governor of Bauchi State; a promise of N5,000,000 by the Deputy Senate President, and this was topped off with an award of excellence by the bank.

The report was first shared by Tony Elumelu last year July on his Facebook.

The entrepreneur praised the security guard identified as Mohammed Ibrahim Ogbanago for his honesty, and said Ogbanago could have fled with the missing money but chose not to.

“When I heard about this story, I knew I had to meet the man who despite facing rising petrol & transportation prices and ‘Tomato Ebola’ returned such a huge sum of money without recourse to himself,” Elumelu said.

“It was a pleasant surprise to hear him tell this story and about how he came to be in the board room with us. even more surprising was hearing him speak about his passion for governance and integrity in leadership,” he added.

For returning the money, Ogbanago was rewarded with the sum of $5,000 by the governor of Adamawa, $10,000 by the governor of Bauchi, the Deputy Senate president, Senator Ekwerenmadu said He will be announced at the floor of the Senate on Tuesday during plenary and will be given the sum of N5,000,000(Five Million Naira only) by the senate.

Ibrahim was also given an award of Excellence by the bank and several unannounced donations.
