Vanessa, wife of Kobe Bryant, late basketball legend, has slammed Meek Mill, American rapper, over his song’s lyrics about her husband.
Many condemned Mill after a line from ‘Don’t Worry (RIP Kobe)’, his forthcoming song, surfaced online and went viral.
The yet-to-be-released project appeared to have made an allusion to the helicopter crash that led to Kobe’s death.
“Yeah, I ever lack, I’m goin’ out with my chopper, it be another Kobe,” Mill’s lyrics read.
The song’s lyrics had sparked diverse criticism, with many accusing Mill of reawakening the ugly conditions that led to Kobe’s death.
Joining the fray of the critics, Vanessa slammed the rapper on her Instagram Story, noting that such lyrics were not only “insensitive” but also “disrespectful.”
Vanessa also revealed that while Mill may have the intention of honouring her late husband, he did not use the right approach.
“Dear @meekmill. I find this line to be extremely insensitive and disrespectful. Period. I am not familiar with any of your music, but I believe you can do better than this,” she wrote.
“If you are a fan, fine, there’s a better way to show your admiration for my husband. This lacks respect and tact.”
Amid the criticism, Meek Mill took to his Twitter page on Tuesday to let fans know that he has apologised to Vanessa.
“I apologised to her in private earlier today not to the public…Nothing I say on my page directed to a internet viral moment or the family of a grieving woman! If you care about someone grieving change the subject!” he wrote on Twitter.
